Computing devices such as desktop PCs and mobile phones assume a single user at the interface and present an interface personalized to this individual. In the case of large interactive display walls, simultaneous interaction by multiple users becomes possible and consequently, the system needs to adapt to each user at a more fine-grained level. This project addresses the research question: How can we provide personalized interfaces in the context of multi-user interaction with wall displays? Aspects considered are user identification, interaction techniques and characteristics of user behavior.

    YouTouch! Low-Cost User Identification at an Interactive Display Wall

    YouTouch! tracks users in front of an interactive display wall and associates touches with users. Current touch recognition technology does not distinguish between users, making it hard to provide personalized user interfaces or access to private data. We place a commodity RGB + depth camera in front of the wall, allowing us to track users and correlate them with touch events. More information.

    Our Group Interaction Analysis Toolkit GIAnT supports investigation of interactions at a large display wall through a rich set of visualizations. In many cases, thorough user studies of wall display interactions currently require time-consuming video analysis and coding. GIAnT provides visualizations that support investigation of multi-user interaction at large display walls, focusing on visualizing time periods. More information.

    FlowTransfer: Content Sharing Between Spatially-Aware Mobile Phones and Large Vertical Displays

    FlowTransfer is a collection of bidirectional data transfer techniques between mobile phones and large vertical displays that leverage the phone’s position and orientation. We consider interaction at different distances as well as supporting multi-item transfer and incorporating layout support.More information.
