Order picking is described as the compilation of goods out of an inventory regarding a customer order. The majority of the warehouse processes is sill based on human workers. Modern technology can be used to avoid errors during the order compilation which would otherwise lead to less process quality and higher costs. This diploma thesis therefore first researches the current status of academics and technology with the topic of mobile devices
in the field of order picking. In addition, an overview of warehouse proven routing methods and indoor navigation algorithms is given. The results of both research areas are used as a basis for a user and requirement analysis which also involves the empirical values of a warehouse walkthrough and the claimed use case “hazmat securing”. The following conceptual design enhances the analysis results and describes required functions, appearance and
interaction aspects of the wanted solution. For the latter a cloud-based tablet prototype is developed. Finally, the conceptual and prototypic outcomes are summarized and evaluated.
